“Tabassum”, a song about children of war. In memory of Shukria Tabassum. Composed by Ghawgha Taban (Voice) and Mahan Mirarab (Guitar). Recorded in Summer 2021. Due to special circumstances, producing a video has not been possible yet. → The story of Ghawgha Taban in Film 2: https://youtu.be/ifdfj9kbTR4 → Playlist with all festival videos: will be online after the festival BACKGROUND: In 2006, a nine year old girl and her family were kidnapped in Zabol valley and later decapitated by the Taliban due to their Hazara ethnicity. Because of the child’s beautiful smile, even after the beheading, she was named ‘Tabassum’ (which means ‘smile’ in Farsi) and this started a movement. Every war has its own destructive effects, especially for innocent children, the main victims. Children of war are born without even the basic human rights and all they ever see is violence in fron of their eyes. This song is dedicated to these children, like Tabassum. LYRICS (Translation): In the silence of the night An endless night I dreamed of a Kite dancing in the sky The valleys were red with tulips The valleys were red with tulips It was windy in the peaks of the Pamirs It sounded like whispers of a ‘smile’ The song of the night Oh night I would not stop the whispers I would not stop my tears Morning is coming Morning gallops like on a white horse Darkness is fading Morning is coming The victims in Zabol are singing Under the blade of blind executioners Oh night Our day will come The light of day Morning is coming Female Voice of Afghanistan’ is a virtual music festival.
