After days of intense fighting in Panjshir, an eerie silence seems to have gripped the valley. Panjshir now resembles a ghost town after the Taliban claimed victory over the province. Parts of the valley appear abandoned with only the elderly and livestock remaining in many villages. In an interview to New York Times, locals said there is no one left, except the elders, and the poor who cannot afford to leave. Despite no signs of intense clashes, resistance fighters claimed that the fight is far from over. Several Resistance leaders, including Ahmad Massoud, have vowed to never surrender. NRF is still holding the high mountains.
